Antagonistic Fungal Endophytes against Blue stain-associated Fungus from Benguet Pine (Pinus kesiya Royle ex Gordon)

Parasitic infection remains as a serious threat for both plants and animals. The present study was undertaken to perform preliminary phytochemical screening and to determine the anthelmintic activity of Laurencia papillosa methanolic extract using egg hatch test and motility test. Caenorhabditis elegans were used as test worms for determining its anthelmintic potential. Various concentrations of the extract were taken for anthelmintic activity and results were expressed in terms of percent mortality and eclodibility after incubation. Quantrel was used as the positive control while M9 buffer was used as the negative control. Results show that 100% extract and 1% drug are equally effective for the egg hatch and motility test. The amount of extract concentration increases egg hatch inhibition and mortality rate. L. papillosa was observed to have anthelmintic property and further studies may test this on common parasites. Determination of dosage and manufacture of L. papillosa commercially as an anthelmintic drug is recommended.
