๐ฉ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ Garrino & R. Bustam. & ๐ฉ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ Mansibang & R. Bustam. Two new species of orchids from Pantabangan-Carranglan Watershed Forest Reserve in Nueva Ecija, Philippines.
Named in honor and appreciation of Dr. Pieter B. Pelser and Dr. Julie Barcelona, for their invaluable contribution towards promoting citizen science and Philippine botany!
๐. ๐ฃ๐ข๐ณ๐ค๐ฆ๐ญ๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ข๐ฆ resembles ๐๐ถ๐ญ๐ฃ๐ฐ๐ฑ๐ฉ๐บ๐ญ๐ญ๐ถ๐ฎ ๐ค๐ฉ๐ข๐ณ๐ช๐ด๐ข๐ฆ but differs by having smaller vegetative parts, ovate petals with a rounded apex, and a labellum with two ridges that are strongly angled outwards the adaxial surface, rounded proximal crests, and a canaliculate abaxial surface.
๐. ๐ฑ๐ฆ๐ญ๐ด๐ฆ๐ณ๐ช resembles๐๐ถ๐ญ๐ฃ๐ฐ๐ฑ๐ฉ๐บ๐ญ๐ญ๐ถ๐ฎ ๐ข๐ถ๐ณ๐ฆ๐ฐ๐ฃ๐ณ๐ถ๐ฏ๐ฏ๐ฆ๐ถ๐ฎ but differs by having caducous sheath covering the pseudobulbs, punctulate leaf surface, shorter leaves, absence of transverse callus in median portion of labellum, median portion with short, rounded ridge, rounded apex, and triangular stelidia.
The publication of these remarkable new species was a result of the continuous study of the ๐๐ก๐ข๐ฅ๐ข๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐๐ฑ๐จ๐ง๐จ๐ฆ๐ข๐ ๐๐ง๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐, Inc., in the PCWFR. This adds to the growing inventory of biodiversity in the region, which in turn helps to support forest management efforts, including the ongoing bid to establish the PCWFR as a Protected Area.
